I think it's been all these complications with subjects, applying for a work permit and hearing about job and internship deals being sealed left, right and center before uni's even over - not to mention movies like Bucket List - that have made me start thinking about the future these days.
I don't know everything about what I want my years ahead to become. I might have some idea. But I suppose it's easier to know what I don't want: 2 kids by 30, newly divorced and working 9-5 in a stagnant, non-engaging job, in an office full of politics for less than ten thousand dollars a month. And I figure that in order to escape that, I'm going to need a plan to help me have the life I want to lead. But first I thought about what kind of life and what kind of person I wanted to end up being.
Am I the relaxing beach house or the city apartment type of girl? Is the rough and tumble look ok sometimes or am I going to behave sleek and classy all the time? Do I drink coffee or tea in the mornings? How anal will I be about separating work and play? What kind of guys will I date? How independent am I allowed to be? How will I pick my friends?
It's hard cause I've always been the sort to want so many conflicting things at the same time. And it gets harder when you realize that you can't possibly be a marine biologist - living on a boat 6 months in a year and going diving with sharks and saving whales, a travel journalist - exploring Tibet and taking the train along the silk road AND be a sophisticated, Gucci clad editor of a glossy fashion magazine all at the SAME time. Cause no! Life is designed so you can't possibly do everything you want to. You have to pick the best possible option and go for it. But who on earth wants to do just one thing?!
And I can't seem to compromise one thing for another. The only way I can see living life to the max is to somehow become incredibly rich without submitting myself to my job. That way I can have the beach house AND the swanky city apartment, all the diving AND the exotic travel experiences, t-shirt, jeans and flip flops AND profanely expensive clothes. The BMW convertable and the jeep.
So now that I've figured that one out I just have to find a way to do get it done.
